Rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium batteries feature the performance, high-power and reliability needed for today’s high-technology equipment. This ranges from audio visual and communications equipment to motorized devices and hobby equipment. The Ni-Cd is used where long life, high discharge rate and economical price are important. Main applications are two-way radios, biomedical equipment, professional video cameras and power tools.

Advantages

Inexpensive

Ni-Cd is lowest in terms of cost per cycle, but between three and four times more expensive than lead acid for the same capacity

Long Service Life

Under normal use, Ni-Cd batteries can provide more than 500 charge/discharge cycles, or 5 year of standby power

Fast and Stale Discharging Voltage

Discharge voltage remains stable even in conditions of high-rate discharge current

Wide Temperature Range

The cell possess super efficiency and durability for both high temperature and low temperature operations, with the range from -10°C to 70°C

Simple storage and transportation

Most airfreight companies accept nickel-cadmium without special conditions

Limitations

Low charge capacity

Only quarter of the capacity of the alkaline cells

Memory effect problems

Nickel-Cadmium must periodically be discharged/charged to prevent memory effect

Recycling

Cadmium is toxic and should be recycled properly, so some countries restrict its use

High self-discharge

After 1-Month storage at 25°C, a fully charged cell can still deliver approx. around 70% of its nominal capacity
